You could feel the energy in our August Group Meeting. Energized crowd, packed agenda, good vibes all around. One of the best meetings we’ve had.

We have 85 days until Election Day, and the mission is simple. Election sabotage doesn’t stand a chance against a win too big to dispute. Turnout is everything. Turnout is where our energy belongs.

Become a Poll Observer

Step up as a Poll Observer. This role is simple: citizens like us station ourselves 150 feet from the polls, watching and documenting if needed. You do not interfere, only document. Training (and a t-shirt) provided by the ACLU.

We’re looking for 200 poll observers for early voting and Election Day. Fair, safe, secure elections start with people like you showing up. We’ve signed up. Join us.

Effingham Data Center

• Email and/or speak with every Effingham County Commissioner. (You do not have to live in a commissioner’s district to contact them. More comments the better!) Ask them to disapprove the site plan or minimally delay voting on it until the public has adequate information. Commissioners:

• Submit public comments online to the Public Service Commission. Enter the docket number 44280 in the “Docket Number” box. Enter “Large Load Contract Filing - 7.15.26” in the “Agenda Item” box. Make sure to reference “Document Filing #227259” in your comment. Ask them to file an objection to provide 30 days more for PSC review. Ask them to scrutinize this contract and require more information to be made available to the public. (Currently the contract between GA Power and Open AI is 100% redacted.)
• Before August 14, object to the Plant McIntosh expansion by emailing public comments to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (related to air quality permits). Comment at: Air-Permits.Comments@dnr.ga.gov. Make sure to use the subject heading “McIntosh Combined-Cycle Facility Air Quality Permit”.

Support MESE

MESE is hosting a virtual family support training on August 18 from 5 PM to 6 PM. This is the required first step for anyone who would like to volunteer to support immigrant and migrant families. If you’d like to help with providing rides, delivering groceries, or other activities, contact MESE at info@migrantequity.org to sign up.

The next bagging event for recently released ICE detainees will be at White Whale on August 22 at 12:30 PM. These detainees are often released far from their homes with little to no resources like food, water, or clothes. We are collecting hygiene items and gift cards to buy phone cards or transportation. Bring donations directly to White Whale the day of.

• Thursday, Aug 13: Attend the city council meeting on the millage rate hearing and protest the city’s deployment of Flock cameras.
